Dua ganda putra terbaik Indonesia, Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Marcus Fernaldi Gideon dan Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto, akan saling memperebutkan tiket semifinal. Partai ini merupakan ulangan final ganda putra Asian Games 2018. Saat itu Kevin/Marcus menang 21-13, 18-21, 24-22.
Kami terakhir kali ketemu di Asian Games, ini jadi tolok ukur buat kami. Harus siap dari segala aspek, semua harus benar-benar dipersiapkan,” kata Rian.
“Semua sudah tahu kalau Kevin/Marcus sepertinya gampang sekali juara. Kami pernah hampir menang atas mereka di Asian Games, ini jadi patokan bahwa tidak ada yang tidak mungkin,” jelas Fajar.
Dua kali bertemu, Kevin/Marcus belum terkalahkan oleh Fajar/Rian. Sebelum di Asian Games, Kevin/Marcus juga mengalahkan Fajar/Rian di Indonesia Open 2018 dengan skor 21-13, 21-10.
Lima wakil Indonesia yang lolos adalah Jonatan Christie, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, Greysia Polii/Apriyani Rahayu, Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir, dan Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan.
Partai menarik tersaji antara Anthony Sinisuka Ginting melawan pemain Jepang Kento Momota, sedangkan Ahsan/Hendra akan meladeni ganda China, Li Junhui/Liu Yuchen.
